After we swapped portraits, quoted them up and manipulated them a little bit, I placed them around town.

Works in progress...not necessarily satisfied

I think the thing I'm struggling with most is trying to decide if I should keep these associations as random as possible, or if I should consider these a bit more in depth.

Such and Thoughts

Banksy- Grannies

After discussing with Kat the route we were going to take for our collaboration piece, I got very excited about the project and began to think about Banksy. After first hearing about Banksy and seeing the documentary, Exit Through the Gift Shop, I have been intrigued with his work and more so the "message" he is trying to convey.

I think that me and Kat are currently working on similar projects when it comes to the Folk Art project, and that this collaboration will be a spin off somewhat. Whether propoganda or funny/shocking message, we will see.

Methodological

Adam and Kat will seperately create and edit images of famous people...then exchange and create text for each other's image.

Initial thoughts

Moving forward in this project, I look forward to exploring new ways to appropriate meanings, in as many ways as possible. Adam and I have some similar interests in regards to recent folk art projects, propaganda, and mass media.

Possibly moving forward, we could create things such as:
t-shirts, mugs, frames, cross-stiched pieces, screen-printed clothing, propaganda posters, alter-egos (and respective online identities for those), etc...

***I think one of the big things we have to decide is whether or not we want to have our project more focused on mass production (for the masses), or propaganda directed at the masses.

In regards to materials and content, I think we should decide if we want our work to be purposeful in those choices, or if chance and random selection should be a part of it also. I was thinking if we want to incorporate chance into our pieces, we could determine our work based on what we draw out of a hat.
We'd divide the content into sections: 1. the people, 2. the sayings, and 3. the medium/production.

i.e.
1.) Misc Rappers, Paris Hilton, Obama, Fred Phelps, Michael Phelps
2.) "Bitches ain't shit but hoes and tricks", "Hope", "You Will Eat Your Children" (F.Phelps and Westboro Baptist Church), "I always thought it would be neat to make the Olympic team".
3.) cross-stitch, a portrait, a famous logo, a trademark of the person (physical object), graffiti, stencil, graphite, cartoon, pixelated images, livepaint, cyanotype, sepia, etc...

Let me know your thoughts...here are some images for inspiration:
